Jihnai Johnson of Hephzibah Participate in National Campaign to Eradicate Illiteracy

2015 Dec 2

Jihnai Johnson of Hephzibah was one of 22 students selected to participate in American Reads/America Counts, a federal work-study position where tutors work with children and youth at a variety of during and after school programs throughout Allentown.

Through this national campaign, Johnson, will have the challenging opportunity to help children learn to read and learn arithmetic.

Johnson and the other 21 students involved in this program, participate in tutoring of Kindergarten through 8th grade children at the local Boys and Girls Club of Allentown, Pinebrook Services, Power Readers at Sheraton Elementary School, Trexler Middle School, and After School Program at Union Terrace Elementary School.

Cedar Crest College professors, consultants, and Intermediate Unit instructors provide a diversity of workshops for the tutors. These workshops help the students become creative, effective, caring tutors for the children.
