Cedar Crest College Awarded $1M for Athletic Renovations

Allentown, PA (11/30/2022) — Cedar Crest College will be constructing a new turf softball field thanks to $1 million in state funding awarded to the College through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP).

Cedar Crest's award is part of $7.5 million in grant funding secured for Allentown improvement projects by State Senator Pat Browne and PA Representatives Peter Schweyer and Mike Schlossberg. The Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program is a commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects.

The College will utilize the RACP funds to convert its grass softball field into an all-year, all-weather turf field with lighting. The new turf field will also help alleviate limitations due to inclement weather and drainage issues, as well as improve player safety.

The refurbishment of the softball field will not only benefit coaches and student-athletes - who make up nearly 40% of Cedar Crest's student body - but also the variety of community groups that utilize the field.

"A new softball field will position our already strong program to succeed at another level, and these updates will help us continue to draw top-caliber athletes," says Christy Fleagle, Director of Athletics at Cedar Crest College. "This turf field will also benefit our other athletic programs, creating an even more optimal experience for our students. It is an exciting time to be a Falcon!"
