MEDIA ALERT: Cedar Crest College to host groundbreaking ceremony for Harmon Center for Leadership in Technology
Allentown, PA (05/28/2026) — Cedar Crest College will host a groundbreaking ceremony celebrating the start of renovations for the Elaine & John Harmon Center for Leadership in Technology at Cedar Crest College on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 1 p.m.
The ceremony will include brief remarks from Dr. Elizabeth Meade, President of Cedar Crest College, and Dr. Robert A. Wilson, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Made possible through a generous gift from the Estate of alumna Elaine Oberkotter Harmon '59 and her husband, John, the Harmon Center will serve as a transformative space where Cedar Crest students can cultivate the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly tech-driven world. By integrating leadership development with technological expertise, the Center will foster a unique environment where students are encouraged to blend technical knowledge with the critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and leadership skills essential in today's complex world.
In addition to providing an innovative space for Cedar Crest students to learn and thrive, the Harmon Center will also serve as a center in the Lehigh Valley among businesses and organizations looking to develop their approaches to technology strategy. Presented earlier this spring, the Harmon Center's Tech & Talent Summit, in partnership with ADVANCE by Cedar Crest, brought industry and academic leaders together to explore workforce technology needs and skills gaps in the Lehigh Valley and beyond.
The Center has established new undergraduate majors in Cybersecurity, Data Science, and Computer Science, alongside Applied AI integration, which launched in Fall 2025. These new areas of study further solidify Cedar Crest's role as a pioneer in preparing women for tech-driven careers. Designed to meet the needs of a diverse student population, these new programs are available to traditional undergraduate students in the College for women and learners in the coeducational School of Adult and Graduate Education.
